Exams for Credit

CLEP - College Level Examination - The College-Level Program (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course.  Developed by the College Board, CLEP is the most widely accepted credit by examination program available at more than 2,900 colleges and universities.  Pass any of the 33 CLEP exams and achieve your college and career goals.  You may schedule an appointment online.  These exams are offered daily, Monday - Friday 8:30 am,  11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm.

DSST - Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (Formerly DANTES) - Are College Level exams that students can take to earn college credit for knowledge acquired outside of the traditional classroom.  Recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE), the 38 subject-level exams are offered in diverse diciplines and cover upper and lower-level baccalaureate credit courses. You may schedule an appointment online. These exam are offered daily, Monday - Friday 8:30 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm.

DSST Exams are available for free to the following eligible military personnel and eligible civilian employees:

  • Military personnel (Active Duty and Reserve) - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army and Air National Guard

  • Eligible civilian employees and spouses of participating Reserve Component and Coast Guard personnel

*Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University - provides students the opportunity to receive up to 12 credits of pass/fail university credits by examination.  Currently,  the University of Alaska Anchorage does not accept credit for any of these tests.  The test is 2.5 hours in length and examinees are required to register with BYU at least 10 days before the scheduled test date.  Examinees must schedule a proctoring appointment online 24 hours in advance with the UAA Testing Center.  

UExcel Exams - is a credit by examination program offered in a computer based format at the Advising and Testing Center.  The University of Alaska Anchorage awards credit for successful completion of the Excelsior College Examination.  Visit the UExcel Website to register and for additional exam details.
