Biological Sciences Mission:

The mission of the Department of Biological Sciences is to pursue the understanding of biological systems and disseminate that knowledge efficiently
 and effectively to our peers, our students, and the public.

 

Biological Sciences Outcomes:
A.A. & GER Natural Sciences Outcome

Education outcomes reflect program
objectives designed to produce
Associate of Arts students who can:

  • Articulate the fundamentals,
    developments, and impacts of one
    or more scientific disciplines, and develop
    and analyze evidence-based conclusions about the natural and social world.

 
B.A. & B.S. Biological Sciences Outcome

Education outcomes reflecting program objectives designed to produce baccalaureates who can demonstrate their:

  • Knowledge of central conceptual models used in major thematic areas of biological sciences.
  • Understand the vocabulary specific to biological sciences in major thematic areas of biology.
B.S. Natural Sciences Outcome

M.S. Biological Sciences Outcome

The successful candidate for the Master’s of Science degree in Biological Sciences will have:

  • Mastered the fundamental concepts of Biology, including cell biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, and ecology.
  • A working knowledge of the principles of scientific methodology, of the methods and technology of biological research, of quantitative analysis of scientific data, and will be capable of writing a publishable scientific paper.
  • Demonstrated mastery of at least one focus area within biology or biochemistry.
