This is the second semester course in the sequence.

The course is a continuation of CHEM A321 and includes the study of spectroscopic techniques for structure determination, and the chemistry of alcohols, ethers, epoxides, thiols, sulfides, carbonyl compounds, amines, carbohydrates, and amino acids.  It emphasizes nomenclature, physical properties, synthetic methods, and reaction mechanisms.

The prerequisite for this course is CHEM A321 with a minimum grade of C.  This prerequisites is strictly enforced.

CHEM A323L is the laboratory component of this course and requires a separate registration.
