Aviation Administration

The Aviation Administration program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level management positions in all aspects of the aviation industry. Courses include Airport Management, Airline Management, Air Service Operations, and Aviation Law & Regulations.

undefinedIndividuals presently employed in the industry enroll in these courses for advancement, or to complement existing skills.  The program leads to a broad-based understanding of the aviation industry.  Students participate in internships and part-time positions in many aspects of the industry.

Students also have opportunities to get involved in exciting research projects in a variety of areas.

 

Aviation Administration
Associate of Applied Science

Upon graduation in the associate of applied science degree, you will be able to:

  • Understand the theory of aircraft performance; aircraft engine and system operation.
  • Have an overview of the social and economic importance of the aviation industry.
  • Have an overview of aviation history.
  • Understand aviation law and regulations; responsibility and authority of Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Understand theories of corporate management of airports, airlines, and general aviation.
  • Understand the development and evaluation of safety related programs; human factors associated with the aviation industry.
  • Understand weather and atmospheric processes.
  • Understand principles of financial accounting.
  • Understand theories of business management and/or supervision.
  • Have awareness of industry information: current status, segments and opportunities.

Aviation Management
Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology - Aviation Management
This is a 4-year degree requiring 122 credits to complete, including General Education Requirements for baccalaureate degrees and aviation specific courses.  You may download the degree checklist, and the degree sequence checklist  which will come to good use when you discuss your academic plans with our advisor.

Upon graduation in the bachelor of science degree, you will be able to:

  • Have basic pilot knowledge.
  • Understand aviation law and regulations; responsibility and authority of Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation
  • Understand the development/evaluation of safety related issues.
  • Understand weather and atmospheric processes.
  • Understand the theory of human factors associated with the aviation industry and Company Resource Management.
  • Understanding of contemporary issues and trends in the air transportation industry.
  • Understand organizational theory and behavior.
  • Understand computer and job-related technology skills.
  • Have mathematical skills to solve job-related problems.
  • Understand principles of human resource management.
  • Understand principles of negotiations and conflict management.
  • Understand theories of corporate management of airports, airlines, and general aviation.
  • Understand Airport Operations: environmental considerations, land usage, finance and budgeting, security and liability, airside and groundside capacity and operating constraints.
  • Understanding of Air Service Operations: financing, revenues and expenses, flight line and office functions, safety, and liability, applicable FAA regulations.
  • Understanding of Airline Operations: applicable FAA regulations, market research and demand determination, route determination, and aircraft fleet requirements.
  • Understand microeconomic theory.
  • Understand principles of financial accounting.
  • Understand fundamentals of financial management.
  • Awareness of industry information: current status, segments and opportunities.
