Welding and Nondestructive Testing Technology

The Welding and Nondestructive Testing Technology program prepares students for employment as entry-level technicians in construction, manufacturing, and transportation industries. A variety of career opportunities throughout the world are available to welding technicians and nondestructive examination technicians.

The Welding and Nondestructive Testing program offers an AAS Degree in Welding that enables students to develop skills in four main welding processes and three thermal cutting processes, as well as two Undergraduate Certificates.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Welding & Nondestructive Testing Technology

The AAS degree in Welding & Nondestructive Testing Technology is designed to enable students to develop manual skills in four main welding processes and three thermal cutting processes.  Students also gain a wide range of technical knowledge in welding applications, procedures, reading plans and specifications, and applied metallurgy. Welder qualification tests are administered as prescribed in AWS D1.1, API Standards 1104 or ASME IX welding codes. 

Students examine metallic components, or weldments, to locate and evaluate discontinuities by learning to apply liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, radiographic, and ultrasonic test methods.  Students may be qualified in each method based on general, specific, and practical examinations prescribed by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing. A total of 61-63 credits is required for the AAS degree.

 

Undergraduate Certificates in Welding & Nondestructive Testing

The Welding & Nondestructive Testing program offers Undergraduate Certificates in Industrial Welding Technology and Nondestructive Testing Technology.

Industrial Welding Technology
Industrial Welding Technology students develop manual skills in main welding processes and three thermal cutting processes. In addition, students will gain a wide range of technical knowledge in welding application, procedure welder qualifications, reading plans and specifications and applied metallurgy. Welding qualification tests are administered as prescribed in AWS D1.1, API Standard 11104 or ASMA IX codes. A total of 30-32 credits is required for the Undergraduate Certificate in Industrial Welding Technology.

Nondestructive Testing Technology
Nondestructive Testing Technology students examine metallic components or weldments to locate and evaluate discontinuities by learning to apply liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current, radiographic and ultrasonic test methods. Student qualifications in each method are based on general, specific and practical examinations administered as prescribed in the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A. A total of 32-35 credits is required for the Undergraduate Certificate in Nondestructive Testing Technology.

These programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of employers in the industry. All programs are based on applicable industry standards and lead to industry-based certificates.
