Current Issues in CTE
Studies and analyzes recent trends, research, and issues concerning career and technical education, with a focus on evaluation, interpretation and sources. Identifies national and statewide issues, including legislation and special populations.

Curriculum & Assessment in CTE
Examines principles and procedures in the development of career and technical education curriculum. Studies theory and principles of quality assessment and assessment techniques.  Addresses current trends in career and technical education curriculum and assessment, including programs of study and third party assessment.

Developing Programs of Study
Course further develops teachers understanding of program of study, to analyze content standards to determine how they fit in a program of study, and to work through the phases in developing a program of study for one career cluster pathway. Asynchronous, distance delivered course offered exclusively via Blackboard, open-entry.

Alaska Association for Career and Technical Education (AACTE) Fall Conference (1 cr., face-to-face) – This annual conference October 29-31, 2012, benefits not only AACTE members but anyone who is interested in career and technical education at both the secondary and postsecondary levels. Keep checking for updated information, or check the Alaska ACTE website(www.actealaska.org) for the most current information.

Building Student Career Pathway Portfolios (1 cr., distance delivered) - This course explores a process for teaching students in grades 6-12 to assess interests; develop an individual education and career plan based on interests, aptitudes, lifestyle requirements and projected regional workforce needs; and create a continuous, transportable electronic portfolio of student work that can be modified and updated. The course will utilize existing resources like AKCIS, WIN, WorkKeys and TERC that are available at no cost to Alaskan students, recognized and validated, and accessible throughout the state. This course is supported by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development Career & Technical Education Department.

CTE Teacher Externship (3 cr.) – Course is intended for CTE teachers who organize their own learning experience in a business with the outcomes of incorporating academic, technical, and/or employability skills into a learning opportunity for students; describing careers, skills needed, and employee characteristics expected by employers; and describing all aspects of industry related to the business host's industry. The two-week externship can take place over the school year, during school breaks or in the summer.
