Building Student Career Pathway Portfolios (1 cr., distance delivered) - This course explores a process for teaching students in grades 6-12 to assess interests; develop an individual education and career plan based on interests, aptitudes, lifestyle requirements and projected regional workforce needs; and create a continuous, transportable electronic portfolio of student work that can be modified and updated. The course will utilize existing resources like AKCIS, WIN, WorkKeys and TERC that are available at no cost to Alaskan students, recognized and validated, and accessible throughout the state. This course is supported by the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development Career & Technical Education Department. CTE Teacher Externship (3 cr.) – Course is intended for CTE teachers who organize their own learning experience in a business with the outcomes of incorporating academic, technical, and/or employability skills into a learning opportunity for students; describing careers, skills needed, and employee characteristics expected by employers; and describing all aspects of industry related to the business host's industry. The two-week externship can take place over the school year, during school breaks or in the summer.
