Foundation and Scholarship Support
An endowment has been established which makes approximately $10,000 of
scholarship monies available each year for disbursement to program
students.
If you wish to contribute to the scholarship fund please access the UAA Office of Development through the link below.
Highest Priorities for Private Support: The Cuddy
Center has been the home of the Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Dietetics
and Nutrition program for some 36 years. The building, laboratories,
and class rooms are in generally good shape. With funds raised each year
through the Celebrity Chef Invitational, the basic educational tools,
appliances and audiovisual equipment have been maintained.
Vision for growth: As the nation’s service sector
and Alaska’s Hospitality/tourism industry expand, the demand for
educated workers increases. The Culinary Institute of America has
determined that there are 6 to 8 viable job offers for each Culinary
graduate. In Alaska that figure is more accurately reflected as 8 to
10. There are simply not enough trained, educated professionals to
satisfy industry need.
With obesity and diabetes on the rise in Alaska, nutrition educators
and dietitians are in high demand. To help educate and raise awareness
statewide, the Dietetics and Nutrition faculty are continuing to deliver
Dietetics and Nutrition courses online.
In the Culinary, Hospitality, and Dietetics & Nutrition Programs,
the push is to promote programs statewide and double enrollments by
2010.
