October 7th. Kicked off Filipino American History Month with a game "Filipino or Not," watching video clips related to Filipino American History, and discussion.

 

Dr. EJ David, Your HISTORY is NOW

October 14th, Consortium Library 207. Dr. EJ David presented and led a discussion on colonial mentality and how Filipino American history shapes Filipino American identity today. Kevin Nadal presents "Brown and Fabulous"

October 21st, ARTS 116. Dr. Kevin Nadal is a professor, psychologist, performer, activist and author. He received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Columbia University and recently published a book entitled, “Filipino American Psychology.” In celebration of Filipino American History Month, he was invited to UAA to lecture on his research on Filipino American psychology and present excerpts from his one man show, “Pinoy.” For more information about Dr. Kevin Nadal's work, please visit his website.

Fiesta Alaskero, from Tinikling to Hip Hop

October 28th, Student Union Cafeteria. UAA and the Anchorage community came together to celebrate Filipino American History Month with student performances, a presentation of contemporary Filipino American issues, trivia and prizes, and, most importantly, Filipino food!
