The Undergraduate Creative Writing Program is sponsoring April 18th reading for CWLA undergraduate students. Submit your original creative writing work online by clicking here. More information may be found on the submission form page and in this flyer. Deadline for submission is April 5th. Teaching Assistantship Opportunity: English Graduate students should consider applying to the Teaching Assistantship Program. Through this program Graduate students will have the opportunity to develop professionally and gain valuable teaching experience. Check out these three opportunities for UAA students: the Northern Light Essay Contest for Graduate Students, the Northern Light Essay Contest for Undergraduate Students, and the Harold McCracken Endowment Poetry Contest. Deadline for all three contests are Friday March 8, 2013.

(01/23/12) The English Department offers Understory, a small publication of the best creative work by UAA's undergraduate students. Prior copies of Understory may be found for your perusing pleasure in the Department of English, Administrative Building Suite 101. (map) If you are an undergraduate attending UAA this year, then you may submit a creative work to Understory. If you are interested in becoming involved, then attend an informational meeting about submissions and magazine production this Friday, January 27th 1:00pm in room ADM 101-A in the English Department; or email Douglass Bourne for more information.

Undergraduate Creative Writing Classes in the English Department We have added a new genre to our minor (Drama and Screenwriting), updated our courses to include more upper division workshops, and added a summer introductory course that is run in conjunction with the Creative Writing and Literary Arts Low Residency MFA Program. Students read the works of visiting writers, attend nine nights of evening readings, and met with the writers whose works they had studied. View Course Listing... In addition several new writers have joined our ranks including Peter Porco, Jeff Oliver, Mike Burnwell, Steven Hurt and Lee Goodman. Kristen DeSmith and Kathleen Tarr also taught workshops in the spring of 2011. |
