Application for GraduationWhen in doubt, check it out. Check DegreeWorks, see your advisor. Never just assume. Beginning July 1, 2012, there will be a new fee and deadline structure for the Application for Graduation. The Application for Graduation fee will rise to $50 to offset costs associated with Degree Works, the cost of diploma covers, and to align UAA with fees charged by UAF & UAS. With this change students will no longer be charged an additional late fee and will have until the last class day of the semester to apply to graduate. See chart below for more information. All students who complete degree requirements during the academic year are invited to participate in the annual Commencement ceremony at the end of spring semester. Names of students receiving degrees appear in the Commencement program and are released to the media unless a written request not to do so has been received the the Office of the Registrar. Students who do not want their names to be released may change their confidentiality status either on UAOnline or complete the Confidentiality Flag/Directory Hold Request form. Master's students must also order hoods; the color of the hood is determined by the graduate's program and degree. Master's and Doctoral Graduates at Commencement Master’s and Doctoral degree graduates and candidates will not be hooded during Commencement. Instead, UAA holds a special Hooding Ceremony for Master’s and Doctoral Degree Graduates and Candidates on the Saturday before Commencement. This special Hooding Ceremony adds to the graduation experience by making it possible to focus on advanced degree candidates and their accomplishments. It allows graduate faculty and staff, family and friends a chance to witness the ceremonial hooding of the graduate student in a more intimate setting. Please Note: This special Hooding Ceremony does not take the place of Commencement. Graduate students will march with their hoods on their shoulders, receive their diploma cover, have their degrees conferred and be recognized by name along with those earning bachelor’s and associate degrees and certificates at Commencement on Sunday.
