  • Methods Courses taught by Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation

Physical Education teacher preparation for K-12 (elementary and secondary education) is offered at UAA through the Master of Arts in Teaching program (MAT) which can be completed with 39 credits over three semesters if you have already met the content preparation. An email link to request the MAT application is below. You would need to get in touch with our PE faculty advisor to go through the content preparation review form and check to see that you have met all the standards set by the State of Alaska for your subject area. Depending on your bachelor’s degree courses, you may or may not require additional coursework before you begin the MAT program. Contact the Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER) office to schedule your content review at 907-786-4083 or uaa_hper@uaa.alaska.edu. The MAT Program Coordinator, Jim Seitz (jim.seitz@uaa.alaska.edu), can chat with you about completing the program via distance and other alternate options you might have.
