Maintaining StatusIt is important for students and exchange visitors to understand the concept of immigration status and the consequences of violating that status. Every visa is issued for a particular purpose and for a specific class of visitor. Each visa classification has a set of requirements that the visa holder must follow and maintain. Those who follow the requirements maintain their status and ensure their ability to remain in the United States. Follow the links below for more information on maintaining your status in the US. For more information and for access to the laws and regulations governing your stay in the US, please visit the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.Health/Medical Insurance RequirementAcquiring and keeping current health/medical insurance is mandatory for all international students while in the US. Proof of coverage must be submitted by the end of the published registration add/drop deadline each semester (two weeks after regular classes begin).Proof of insurance must be submitted in English and must be received by ISS (in-person or via email) before close of business on the due date. Failure to submit adequate proof of coverage will result in a hold on your student account. Students who miss this deadline must supply proof of one (1) full year of coverage (2 semesters or 12 months) before the hold will be lifted.Recommended InsurersInsurance may be purchased from any company so long as it meets all of the requirements noted above. The providers listed below are frequently chosen by students at UAA and offer plans that meet the stated requirements. There are many options from which to choose to suit a wide variety of preferences and budgets. *Preferred by on-campus Student Health Center |
