On-Campus Housing

It is economical, convenient, and fun to live in UAA housing, especially for international students who are new to the area. To apply for housing, please complete and submit the Housing Application for International Students. When students complete the application for housing, they may  choose to apply for only one semester or for the whole academic year.  Please note that additional charges will be due if you change your mind and move out after only one semester.   Below you can find the housing rates. (all prices are per semester).  You can submit your application via postal mail, e-mail to cjcaywood@uaa.alaska.edu, or fax to 907-786-4888.

Points to consider when applying for UAA housing:

  • Housing space is limited, fills quickly, and is   assigned to students on a first come, first served basis - so apply   early!!! If you apply late, you may be put on the wait list.
  • Smoking is not allowed in any indoor area of housing.
  • Housing residents are subject to rules set forth in the   housing contract, and infractions of those rules will result in negative   consequences, up to and including termination of the housing contract.
  • Dorm rooms are furnished (bed, desk, chair, closet   space) but towels, sheets, blankets, and other supplies are not   provided. First time students have the opportunity to purchase the Welcome Package for $125. The Welcome   Package includes transportation from the airport to housing, assistance   with housing check-in, and a welcome pack with first night essentials such   as laundry bag, pillow, sheets, blanket, towel, sample size toiletries,   bathroom tissue, $5 international phone card, and a variety of snacks and   drinks.
  • Pets and other animals are not allowed in the   residential community.
  • Summer housing is offered on a limited basis. In order   to be eligible for summer housing, you will have to be enrolled in at   least 3 credits each summer session, or 3 credits for one summer session.

Immunization Requirements

In order to live in UAA Campus Housing, students must have following immunizations:

  • MMR (Mumps, Measles, Rubella)
  • Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Tetanus-Diphteria
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Meningococcal Vaccine (Recommended but not required)

Before moving in, all students must have the Housing Immunization Form signed off by a licensed health care provider. The UAA Student Health and Counseling Center can provide these services for current UAA students.

Arrival Information

If you are accepted to live in University Housing for the Fall 2011 semester, check-in will begin on Saturday, January 14, at 10am.  Please note that when you arrive the room will be furnished, but there will not be any towels, bed linens, bathroom tissue, or other amenities.  You can reserve a Welcome Package through International Student Services that includes airport pick-up (anytime), assistance with housing check-in and first night and first shower essentials.  Find detailed information on the Welcome Package Reservation Form.

If you need to fly in earlier for some reason and would like to check-in early, please contact Carter Caywood at cjcaywood@uaa.alaska.edu as soon as you have your flight information and she will contact housing to ask if an early check-in can be arranged.  It may not be possible to arrange an early check-in.  Housing will not arrange for you to check-in more than a few days in advance.

If you will arrive more than 4 days before housing check-in, make a hotel reservation near campus.  Nearby hotels include Extended Stay Deluxe – Anchorage – Midtown,   the Best Western Golden Lion Hotel, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites Anchorage Midtown, Embassy Suites Anchorage, and Motel 6.  Rates during the month of January will be $63 - $200 per night.  It is ESSENTIAL that you make reservations before you arrive.

Please DO NOT go on Craig's List to look for a cheap room - you will most likely end up in an inconvenient and less than lovely location.
