The Department of Mathematical Sciences seeks to provide students with the training in Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics. The Department offers baccalaureates (BA/BS) in Mathematics and Computer Science. It also offers undergraduate minors in Mathematics and Computer Science for students majoring in another area. In addition, the Department delivers excellent service courses in statistics for other programs; courses that lead to minor in statistics; courses of advanced topics, and research advising for students across all disciplines. The Programs of the Mathematical Sciences Department are offered by the College of Arts & Sciences.

The mission of the Mathematics Program is, through excellence in instruction, quality research and scholarly activities, valuable and expert resources to the community, curriculum, and academic advising, to inspire our students to develop the knowledge and skills to understand, communicate and apply mathematical ideas.

The Computer Science program at the University of Alaska Anchorage is committed to the University's mission to discover and disseminate knowledge through teaching, research, engagement, and creative expression. First, through undergraduate and graduate programs, we strive to teach our students the fundamental principles of computer science and important issues in computing so they may pursue advanced degrees or enter the workplace as productive, competent software development or information technology professionals. Second, the program seeks to further the profession of computer science through professional activities and public service within the community, state, nation, and society at large. Finally, the program engages in and disseminates research to advance the development of computer science and provide innovative technological solutions to address the needs of modern society.
