Welcome to UAA!

We are excited about your decision to go to college! The University of Alaska Anchorage is a great place to pursue your academic goals. Starting college does not have to be confusing and challenging. Howl Days is an orientation program, designed to help you transition to college life. We will navigate the way to college success!

Why is Orientation important?

Howl Days will afford you the opportunity to make valuable connections with UAA students, staff and faculty while getting accurate information about life at UAA.  This will relieve common anxieties about starting college.   New students who make these connections tend to be more successful in their transition to college, more likely to be satisfied with their college experience, achieve better grades and graduate.

Registration for HOWL DAYS is currently open!

Other programs offered through the Office of New Student Orientation:

PAW PRINT
Resource book for the new UAA Seawolf.  Want to know who your student body president is?  Current job openings?   Where you can get student discounts in Anchorage for food, clothes, anything? Then you'll want a copy of Paw Print - only available at Howl Days!

ANSWER DESKS
The first week of class can be stressful, confusing but also exciting!  We'll have answer desk stations with smiling faces at strategic places on campus to answer questions such as, "Where's the bathroom?", "Where's room 105?", "Am I close to Eagle River???"

UAA FUSION (For Unity and Service In Our Neighborhoods)
Community Service event offered at the start of each semester where we partner with local agencies and bring you an opportunity to give back!  Imagine - one week, lots of UAA students and many needs met.   Refer to UAA FUSION website for agency information, volunteer registration, or to sign up for email updates and newsletters.

PAPER BACK CHAT
We've taken the Books of the Year on the road!  These readings are part of the ongoing Difficult Dialog initiative at UAA and APU. The Books of the Year 2008-2009 are:

Growing Up Native in Alaska, by A.J. McClanahan
Yuuyaraq: The Way of the Human Being, by Harold Napoleon

We'll be traveling to various Guidance 150 classes to engage in powerful conversation about these two works. Fall 2008 dates released soon.
