Michelle Anderson

Originally from Gulkana, Michelle Anderson has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and a Master’s degree in Rural Development from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. "I knew when I left Glennallen after graduation that I wanted to come back and serve my people one day," says Michelle Anderson, president of Ahtna, Incorporated.

Roald Helgesen

Roald Helgesen

Roald Helgesen is a 1993 political science graduate. He is the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium's (ANTHC) Chief Executive Officer. Roald oversees the statewide Alaska Native health services, including the tertiary and specialty care hospital at ANMC, environmental health and engineering, community health and business support services.

Joelle Brown

Joelle Brown graduated from the political science program in May 2009 with the intention to go into the Peace Corps. Then with one flippant diagnosis from a doctor for some non-critical condition her application was suspended. In January 2010, Joelle signed up to run for public office, which is something she always swore she would never do.

John Roberson III

John Roberson III is a 2008 graduate of the Political Science program. During his time at UAA, John was highly involved with campus activities from UAA’s Constitutional Convention to Student Government. In fact, John served one year as UAA’s student body president where he was responsible for a $250,000 budget and leading students to Juneau to advocate for the University.

Ryan Jager
Ryan Jager

Upon graduation in 2006, Mr. Jager worked as campaign manager for a first time candidate running for the Alaska House of Representatives. After the candidate was successfully elected, Mr. Jager joined his legislative staff in Juneau from 2006 to 2008. In late 2008 he was the statewide field organizer for an Alaskan congressional campaign. In 2009 and 2010, Mr. Jager worked as an assistant to administrative law judges in Washington state. In the fall of 2010 he began attending law school and plans to graduate with a Juris Doctorate in 2013. Read more...

Chris remains active in the University, where he served on the Board of Directors for the UAA Alumni Association.

Ms. Hall was born and raised in Alaska. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alaska Anchorage and also holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Politics from The American University, and a Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law.

Rick Kurtz joined the Central Michigan Political Science Department in 1999, after several years of federal government service in Alaska and Colorado.

Dr. Kurtz holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Colorado State University, Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Virginia, and Bachelor degree in Political Science from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Read more...
