Back to topWaitlisting Classes

What is wait-listing?

When a class reaches its maximum enrollment, it is listed as"closed." Many courses offer a waitlist option to allow you to wait for aseat in the class if someone drops. Please be aware that not all courses offerwait-listing.

How do I get on a waitlist?

If you want to be added to the waitlist for a closed class, select "Waitlist" from the drop down menu on the Registration screen inUAOnline and click the Complete Registration Changes button. If you no longer want to bewait-listed for a class, you can drop from the waitlist by following theinstructions for dropping a course.

Can I wait-list for a course using the Class Schedule Search in UAOnline?

No, you cannot wait-list for a course from the ClassSchedule Search page. To wait-list for a course, click on Register/Add/DropClasses on the Student Services tab in UAOnline and enter the Course ReferenceNumber (CRN) in the Add Classes Worksheet section. Then, select 'Waitlist' fromthe drop down menu next to the course.

What happens next?

If space becomes available in a class and your name is atthe top of the waitlist, you will receive an auto-generated email sentto your PREFERRED email account. You can find out what your preferred email isby checking UAOnline under the Personal Information tab. The email willinstruct you to register for the class through UAOnline within a certainamount of time (generally 48 hours from the time the email is auto-generated).

What if I miss the email or cannot register within the time allowed?

If you do not register within 48 hours of the auto-generatedemail being sent (or the amount of time stated in the email), the systemremoves you from the waitlist, and the next student is given the opportunity toregister. You may add yourself back onto the waitlist, and you will be notifiedagain by email if a space becomes available.

What are the restrictions on wait-listing?

You will not be able to add yourself to the waitlist if:

  • the wait-listed class conflicts with another class in which you are enrolled or on the waitlist.
  • the wait-listed class would exceed your maximum allowed credits above the limit.
  • you have holds on your account.
  • you do not meet the prerequisites, co-requisites or other restrictions for the class.

Am I charged tuition while on the waitlist?

You are not charged for a wait-listed course until you areactually enrolled in it. You may complete registration and pay tuition and feesfor other classes in which you are enrolled.

How do I know where I'm placed on the waitlist?

When you originally register for the course, a small numberpops up. This indicates your current position on the waitlist. Keep checkingyour preferred email for notification of your opportunity to register.

Should I attend the first day of my wait-listed class(es)?

Attend the first day of class for any class(es) for whichyou have been wait-listed. Let the instructor know you are on the waitlist butnot enrolled in the class.

What if I'm on the waitlist for an e-Learning/distance education class?

If you are on the waitlist for an e-Learning/distanceeducation class, email the instructor to find out what you should do. Pleasecontact the department for additional information or assistance.

How long should I wait for a space to open in a class?

Generally, you can add yourself to a waitlist until theclass begins. After the class begins, you will need the instructor's permissionto enroll. Being on the waitlist does not guarantee you a seat in the class.

What about fee payment and financial aid for wait-listed classes?

  • You are not charged tuition and fees for wait-listed classes. Charges only apply after you are actually enrolled in the class.
  • Wait-listed classes are not included in the total number of credits used to calculate your financial aid.
  • If financial aid has already been applied to your account and you subsequently register for a class from the waitlist, tuition and fees are due by the payment deadline. You must pay tuition and fees before the payment deadline to avoid late charges.
  • To avoid late charges, be sure to pay for all enrolled classes by the payment deadline. Classes added later from a waitlist can be paid when they are added.
