Tax Status:

The University of Alaska is a tax-exempt organization under Section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code, which provides for the exclusion of income for instrumentalities of a state or municipal government. It is a designation assigned to public institutions. Contributions to educational institutions, such as the University of Alaska, are tax-deductible by donors for federal income tax if made exclusively for public purposes as provided for in Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Occasionally, even with the determination letter from the IRS, sponsors may feel more comfortable giving to the UA Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3)  organization. Contributions from private donors should be directed to UAA's University Advancement/ Development Office at 907.786.4847.

Summary Description of UAA for PIs:

EPSCoR:

To determine if a proposal is related to EPSCoR, one or more of the following conditions must apply. Please contact the Alaska EPSCoR office at 907.474.5880 with your questions and queries.

1.  The research topic is directly related to an EPSCoR RFA research theme: High Latitude Contaminants, Infrastructure and Systems for Cold Regions, Alaska Genomic Diversity, or Integrative Approaches to Environmental Physiology.
2.  The research utilizes an EPSCoR-funded lab facility or instrument(s): ASET Lab (UAA); DNA Core Facility (UAF); SEM Lab (UAF); Stable Isotope Lab (UAF); or MODIS ground station (UAF).
3.  The proposal continues or builds on previous research activities which were supported by an internal EPSCoR award (New Initiative Grant, graduate fellowship, equipment grant, small college research or partnership grant, etc).
4.  The proposed research involves UA faculty, post-docs, or students who have received or are currently receiving EPSCoR support (including salary, fellowships, equipment and travel).
5.  The proposal is submitted to an EPSCoR-related program of any federal agency or to EPSCoR earmarked funds of the Alaska Science and Technology Foundation.
