Innovate AwardsA new chapter is developing at UAA with the recent announcement of UAA's Innovate Awards. Dr. Helena Wisniewski, Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, secured a $200,000 commitment this year to support a competitively-awarded research and entrepreneurship program for UAA's faculty, which is designed to foster new ideas and encourage the expansion of research. History A similar program known as the Chancellor's Fund for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity was created in 2004 by UAA Chancellor Elaine Maimon and ended in 2009. Each year, a sum total of $200,000 was placed in a competitive proposal pool for faculty, the purpose of which was to provide seed money to launch new projects, conduct preliminary research, or provide additional support to move a faculty member forward in their work. It was found that, over the life of the program, every dollar invested in the effort of UAA's faculty through this program resulted in $11.00 in competitive proposals submitted to external funding agencies (NSF, NIH, and others). After review, these same agencies awarded $4.00 for every dollar invested through the Chancellor's Fund--a four-fold return on investment. Success from this investment included awards to seed new scientific research and provide advances in cultural studies, language recordings, book authorship, and other significant results. This competitive program ended in 2009. Historical records include: FY09 Chancellor's Fund
FY08 Chancellor's Fund
FY07 Chancellor's Fund
FY06 Chancellor's Fund
FY05 Chancellor's Fund
