UAA Ken Gray Endowment Scholarship*

The purpose of the Ken Gray Endowment Scholarship Fund is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to full-time junior or senior students who are formally admitted into a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree-seeking program in the area of sculpture and/or performance art as it relates to the visual art field at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Applicant must exhibit in his/her work an innovative, experimental, and conceptual direction in his/her artwork that stretched the limits of traditional sculpture. For example, the student’s interests can focus on single works of art that go beyond the canon of traditional sculpture, installation art, performance art, mixed-media formats incorporating various types of technologically-oriented systems (i.e. video, computers, etc.), and other kinetically-based directions.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must exhibit in his/her work an innovative, experimental, and conceptual direction in his/her artwork that stretched the limits of traditional sculpture. For example, the student’s interests can focus on single works of art, mixed-media formats incorporating various types of technological-oriented systems (i.e. video, computers, etc.), and other kinetically-based directions.
  • Applicant should demonstrate motivation, academic and leadership potential.
  • Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • Applicant must be formally admitted into a Bachelor of Art or Bachelor of Fine Art degree-seeking program in the area of sculpture and/or performance art as it relates to the visual art field at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
  • Applicant must plan on enrolling full-time (twelve (12) credits) at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
  • Applicant must have a junior or senior class standing by the start of the semester of the award.
  • Applicant must submit a portfolio of work consisting of twenty (20) slides, three letters of reference from practitioners in the sculptural area and/or faculty, and a two-page artist's statement reflecting the criteria for selection.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in the semester for which the award is made.
  • Applicant may be a U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen, Alaska resident, or out-of-state resident.
