Menses After Unprotected Sex?

Dear Betty,

Ok. . . I had unprotected sex.  Could I still get my period like 5 days after the unprotected sex?  And, is it most likely that I will get pregnant?

Dear Reader,

Yes, you can get a period and still be pregnant, especially if it was very light and lasted only a few days.  With unprotected intercourse you can take Plan B within 5 days to prevent a pregnancy.  If you would like to postpone pregnancy and avoid STIs (sexually transmitted infections), I would recommend using condoms and making an appointment with the SHCC for a contraception consult.
