Dear Betty, I was wondering if I have a UTI.  Can that make you miss your period?  My side hurts and my back hurts.     Dear Reader, A urinary tract infection or bladder infection may have pain with urination; increased frequency and urgency of urination; and sometimes blood in your urine.  Pain in your side and pain in your back, may be caused by many things, including a kidney infection.  It is important to make an appointment ASAP with your health care provider or with a nurse practitioner at the Student Health & Counseling Center for further evaluation.  As for late menses; this can be caused by a number of things, but probably not by a UTI.  If you are sexually active, a pregnancy test is in order; and if you have had a new partner in the past few months, be sure to get tested for sexually transmitted infections.
