Fall 2007 Recipients

On December 20, 2007 Dean of Students Bruce Schultz named five outstanding student leaders as
recipients of Leadership Honors. Each student demonstrated a progressive level of leadership development throughout their time at UAA and positively contributed to the campus community. Students receiving this honor upon their December graduation are:

Alana Whelan
The UAA Dance Club and PE Majors Club have been the direct beneficiaries of Alana’s leadership over the last three years. Alana’s dedication to these groups included her developing a member retention program to increase participation in both organizations and her assistance in the creation of fundraising programs that will carry on long after her graduation. Alana spent her final semester on campus working with her clubs’ faculty advisors to establish long-term leadership and organizational development plans.

Donald Yunker
As an executive member of Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society) and the UAA Justice Club, Donald worked closely with his peers and faculty members in developing a series of seminars and volunteer projects that enhanced the practical knowledge of all involved. In additional to these activities Donald spent a good deal of his time on campus helping to establish a student internship program with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Donald was also an active member of the Golden Key Honor Society and was the recipient of the Seawolf Student Leader Award in the fall of 2007.

Tafilisaunon Toleafoa
During her time at UAA Tafi participated in almost every major organization and leadership development opportunity offered. Tafi served the student body as a UAA Student Senator for four years, founded the Polynesian College Council, worked as a tutor, and was selected as a Bonner Leader. Tafi’s time at UAA was dedicated to advocating for her fellow students, working with departments and organizations across campus to create a stronger, safer, and more conscious community.

Behnaaz Irani
Although Behnaaz might be best known as the Vice President of the UAA Union of Students, her involvement with the organization spans over three years and includes participation in the Recycling Program and the Board of Cultural Awareness. Behnaaz was selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference in 2006 based upon her desire to enhance the overall UAA student experience. Throughout her time at UAA Behnaaz was also part of the Northern Light reporting staff and won the President’s National Service Award for her volunteerism efforts within the greater Anchorage community.

Jessee Boullion
Jessee served the Greek community throughout her five years at UAA in many different leadership positions including President of her sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma. With Jessee’s help the chapter strengthened
communication and connection with their national headquarters. For her dedication to the chapter Jessee was awarded with numerous awards including being named as the 2006 Outstanding Senior of the Area by the national organization. In addition to these leadership accomplishments Jessee worked as a student lab
consultant at UAA assisting students, faculty and staff.

We are incredibly proud of each of these students and wish them the best of luck in all future endeavors.

Student Life and Leadership would also like to thank the members of the following members of the Leadership Honors Review Committee whose time and energy were greatly appreciated –
