Charge to Student Success Task Force

At its March 2007 meeting, the Faculty Senate passed the following motion:

Provost Driscoll create a Student Success Task Force that includes the following people:  Faculty Senate President or representative, Chair of Student Academic Success Committee, Undergraduate Academic Board representative, Student Services representative, Provost representative and anyone else he feels necessary.

Subsequently, the Faculty Senate asked that the Provost instruct the Task Force to focus on student advising and placement in 2007 – 2008.  In addition, the Provost expects the task force serve as the key UAA representative in UA Statewide student success discussions, with the co-chairs serving on the Student Success Steering Committee being established by UA Vice President of Academic Affairs Dan Julius.

The Student Success Task Force is being kept small, but is given the authority to appoint ad hoc committees as needed to deal with specific tasks.

The Student Success Task Force will report to and make recommendations to the Provost, who will convey those recommendations to governance and the administration for further action as appropriate.

For 2007 – 2008, the Student Success Task Force should pursue several key tasks.  First, there is a need to further define issues, challenges, and opportunities related to student success.  Second, the task force should inventory existing UAA programs that are meant to enhance student success, with particular attention to measures of success for those programs.  Third, per Faculty Senate’s instruction, the task force should develop a plan to enhance advising and placement for our students.

The Student Success Task Force should prepare a report for the Faculty Senate’s May 2008 meeting.
