USUAA, the Union of Students of the University of Alaska Anchorage, is recognized by the University of Alaska Board of Regents as the governing body for students enrolled at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The purpose of USUAA is to represent the interests, needs, and welfare of all students within the campus community and to supplement and complement education on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. USUAA provides for the expression of student opinion and interests to the community at large and works to protect the rights of all University of Alaska Anchorage students.
The USUAA Assembly allocates students’ student government fees, coordinates activities, represents student views and experiences to the Chancellor, lobbies the Board of Regents and state legislators, and pursues academic and quality of life concerns on behalf of all students. Student registered for three or more credits are considered members of USUAA and are entitled to all its services.

UAA Tobacco Use Policy
The report below synthesizes student opinion polls, surveys, and personal interactions to gauge the general student opinion towards UAA's tobacco use policy. Combined with the research and documentation contained herein, it is a comprehensive policy proposal and implementation plan that balances public health and safety with personal autonomy by recommending the creation of designated smoking areas on the UAA campus.
