2011 Lemonade Day Alaska
by Kathleen McCoy |
Anchorage companies and organizations are joining forces to encourage young entrepreneurs to open for business on Lemonade Day, Sunday, May 1, 2011. Lemonade Day is a free, community-wide program dedicated to teaching children how to start, own and operate their own business through the simple and time-honored act of building and running a lemonade stand. Lemonade Day Anchorage is presented for the first time ever by the UAA College of Business and Public Policy and the UA Center for Economic Development.
The goal of Lemonade Day is to have 1,100 new entrepreneurs hit the streets of Anchorage. On Lemonade Day, everyone has a job: either buying or selling lemonade. Anchorage residents are encouraged to simply purchase a cup of lemonade from one of the youth participating in the program, to demonstrate how our community cares for the future of youth in Anchorage.
Thanks to local sponsors, Lemonade Day provides youth with the free materials and support they need to be in charge of their own entrepreneurial destiny. Presenting sponsors are: BP, ConocoPhillips and Wells Fargo. Additional contributing sponsors include: Alaska Permanent Capital Management, Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, Arctic Wire Rope and Supply, ENSTAR Natural Gas Company and McKinley Capital Management LLC. Lemonade Day is also grateful for support from Anchorage School District, Municipality of Anchorage, military community partners, Junior Achievement, Boys & Girls Clubs, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, Alaska Photo Booth, Salmon Berry Tours and The Magic Bus.
