UAA's Department of Astronomy and Physics is local host to American Astronomical Society's annual meeting June 9-13; free events

UAA's Department of Physics and Astronomy is the local host for this year's 220th American Astronomical Society's meeting. In addition to an on-campus talk June 11 at 2 p.m. in the UAA Campus Bookstore by 2011 Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt ('Surveying my Life: Journeys from Alaska and the Southern Sky') the UAA and Anchorage community are welcome at several public events during the society's Anchorage meeting at the Dena'ina Center in Downtown Anchorage, 555 West Fifth Avenue. These free events include:

  • June 11, 8 p.m., Astronomer Jay Pasachoff, 'Transits of Venus and Mercury: Exoplanet Analogs in Our Solar System'
  • June 12, 8 p.m., 2011 Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt, 'The Accelerating Universe'
