UAA does not offer a degree or certificate in Medical Transcription; however, medical transcription courses are offered through the Medical Assisting department. .There are no admission requirements, but it is strongly recommended to be able to type at least 45 wpm and have thorough computer and software skills before beginning. This occupation requires above average ability in keyboarding, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation and proofreading skills. Most employers require 60 words per minute (wpm) typing as a minimum entry-level job skill for this occupation. Many employers require 80 wpm. Keyboarding courses are strongly recommended to raise your skill level to at least 60 wpm with accuracy. The 45 wpm prerequisite is the minimum level of skill required, not the recommended skill level.
