Graduate Funding Opportunities

ASGP Graduate Research Grants:

The Alaska Space Grant Program (ASGP), a participant in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, invites applications from U. S. citizens for graduate research grants. These grants are offered to graduate students majoring in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics (STEM) fields. Preference is given to projects directly related to Nama's interests. Awards available under this announcement are limited to students attending Alaska institutions of higher education.

Graduate Research grants of up to $15,000 (Total Direct Costs) will be awarded through a competitive process. Grants are open to new and continuing students to support research projects fostering the vision of NASA by encouraging career goals in STEM disciplines, strengthening the nation’s STEM workforce and engaging Americans in NASA’s mission. Students receiving awards in past competitions may apply and receive awards for subsequent competitions.  Women, under-represented minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please see our website for more information and the solicitation.

Completed applications are due by COB on December 2, 2019.

Awardees will be notified by email on or around January 15, 2020.

Alaska NSF EPSCoR:

The Alaska NSF EPSCoR Fire and Ice project announces the availability of travel funding to enable UA faculty, staff and students to present their research, to interact with colleagues and mentors, and/or to obtain training in science related to program goals. Travel may be to conferences, workshops, trainings, or other appropriate academic settings, and should relate to Fire and Ice project goals.

Awards are for up to $3,500 and cover domestic travel only. Travel must be completed by Sept. 1, 2020.

Application deadline is Sept. 16, 2019.

Arctic Domain Awareness Center:

The Arctic Domain Awareness Center (ADAC) announces a competitive search to address research challenges associated with multiple Arctic response capability gaps and shortfalls in science and technology discerned from a two part workshop conducted via “Stressing the System…managing a complex Arctic Crisis” Arctic-related Incidents of National Significance workshop, (Arctic-IoNS). These workshops were conducted at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Northwest Campus in Nome, Alaska April 18–19, 2019 and at the University of Alaska Anchorage from May 20–22, 2019. ADAC principally seeks proposals that can smoothly transition from research to solutions and needed capability for USCG and other DHS Arctic maritime operators. For more information see ADAC funding announcement.
