Academic Programs

The Justice Center has statewide responsibility for higher education and research related to the areas of crime, law, and the administration of justice. The Center offers academic programs in two areas:  1) Justice and 2) Legal Studies/Paralegal.

Under Justice we offer the following:Bachelor of Arts in Justice, a Minor in Justice or Research Honors in Justice for those undergraduate students who wish to develop social science research skills. For those who wish to further their education in the justice area beyond the bachelors level, the Justice Center offers a Criminal Justice emphasis in the Master of Public Administration degree. 

Under Legal Studies/Paralegal we offer: Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies, a Minor in Legal Studies , an Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies, and a Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC) Paralegal Certificate.*

Justice faculty have professional research and service obligations beyond classroom teaching. The Center is an organized research unit which, at its own initiative or in response to requests from outside the university, conducts research and public education programs. Efforts are made to ensure that all undergraduate students who major in Justice and Legal Studies have opportunities to work with faculty members on Justice Center research and service projects.

*NOTE: The Justice Center previously offered an undergraduate Paralegal Studies Certificate. Effective spring semester 2013, new student admissions to this option are permanently suspended.  

  • Majors and premajors already enrolled in the program whose catalog year has not expired (students who have applied for admission under the 2007-2008 or later catalog) may complete their certificate under the terms of the catalog year in which they applied.
  • Students new to the program and students previously enrolled whose catalog year has expired may pursue a credential through one of the Justice Center's new program options – an associate of applied science in Paralegal Studies, a post-baccalaureate certificate in Paralegal Studies, a bachelor of arts in Legal Studies, a minor in Legal Studies, or a Legal Nurse Consultant Paralegal certificate.
  • All program students should see their advisor prior to registration to develop a plan for graduation. Please contact the Justice Center or your advisor for more information.
