A spellbinding and thrilling tale, The Witch of Greythorn is a medieval tale following the corrupt Abbott of Inchafferey and the Witch who seeks vengeance against him for earlier wrongs. Set against this backdrop is the story of young Katherine, a servant to the Abbey, and Sir Angus, the Knight whom she loves. Together with Brother David, a devoted young monk, they battle against those who threaten their future.

The Witch of Greythorn is and original work by local playwright P. Shane Mitchell and is based on an 18th century Scottish poem by James Hogg, as well as a plot by a coven of witches to kill King James of Scotland.

The Witch of Greythorn features some of Anchorage’s most critically acclaimed actors including Wayne Mitchell as the Abbot, Erin Dagon as the Witch vowed to destroy him, and Dana Fahrney as the Abbot’s loyal servant Edith. Kevin Goff, a recent theatrical transplant from the Pacific Northwest, appears as Brother David.

Aric Hudson and Talia Ibarguen appear as the young ingénues whose courtship is threatened by the horror that surrounds them. Hailey Faust plays their friend who is ensnared by the witches. Though still in high school, these young actors have appeared in numerous theatrical productions throughout Anchorage including the critically acclaimed Alaska Overnighters. Award winning actor, director and playwright Shane Mitchell directs. The Witch of Greythorn is the second show this season for UAA Theatre for Young People, a critically acclaimed educational theater program for children of all ages.

Upcoming productions include I’ll Always Love Christmas (December), Madeline (February), Pirate Tales (March), Robin Hood and the Lady of Sherwood (April), and Aesop’s Runaway Fables (May).
