Originally from Tahoe City, California, Schoonmaker finished ninth in the team sprint finals, 15th in the freestyle sprints and 66th in the 15-kilometer classic at the Beijing Olympics. He has made 83 starts on the World Cup, with 17 top-10 finishes and a career-best finish of third in the classic sprint at Ostersund in 2023. Earlier this month, the 2022 Olympian collected back-to-back World Cup podium finishes in Goms, Switzerland, winning second in a classic sprint race the day after taking third place in a freestyle team sprint (with Vermont's Ben Ogden as the first U.S. men's team sprint duo to reach a World Cup podium).
