    Alaska Forum on Social Justice, Diversity, Recovery, and Ethics

The Department of Human Services, UAA invites students, faculty, and staff to attend the 2022 Alaska Forum on Social Justice, Diversity, Recovery, and Ethics as part of its Summer Institute series hosting talks with keynote speakers, panelists, and peers on Alaska's social issues. The forum is broken into three conference sessions and focuses on trauma and addiction, social justice and diversity, and ethics in clinical practice. The conference series is part of the College of Health's commitment to advancing health equity and justice in our state and beyond. Our college has identified this as a critical component in leading by example as we fulfill our commitment to Alaska's community and workforce development needs. Trauma and Addiction: Searching for Healing

This conference will explore difficulties that providers encounter in substance use disorder treatment and strategies to overcome client resistance. Current information on substances used and their effects will be reviewed.

Taking Risk Seriously: Preventing Ethical Violations

This conference provides a review of ethical issues and violations through the lens of risk management. Actual situations that have resulted in licensing board complaints and lawsuits will be discussed, as well as the unique challenges that arise when providing services through telehealth.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

Earn up to 15 continuing education credits in the form of Contact Hour CEUs offered through the UAA School of Social Work. CEUs are available for a variety of professional licenses:

  • Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Health Education Providers
  • Community Health Providers
  • And other types of licensed professionals

Click on each conference page for further details on the CEU types and quantity offered for each event. The credits are offered as contact hour credits by the UAA School of Social Work, a continuing education provider fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, and meet the State of Alaska's requirements for licensed social workers by the Board of Social Work Examiners as stated in the Alaska Statues and Regulations Social Workers.
