UPD makes arrest
by Kathleen McCoy |
The University Police Department has made an arrest in the bike path attempted robbery
case reported on Sept. 11. After an extensive
investigation of the complaint in which the student alleged that he was knocked to
the ground and assaulted, Detective Beckner concluded that the crime was falsely reported.
Evidence indicated that the alleged victim was not being truthful when he told police
that three men had attacked and tried to rob him. Martin Nanouk, 18, of Anchorage
was charged yesterday with Giving False Information or Report to Authorities. He is
scheduled to appear in criminal court later in October.
The University continues, however, to urge the campus community be aware of your surroundings, report those who look or act suspiciously, and be conscious of where the nearest emergency telephone is on campus. UPD is available 24 hours a day at 786-1120. Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility.
