National Disability Employment Awareness Month

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. To recognize and celebrate the contributions of Americans with disabilities you can visit the Consortium Library where Tom Olin and UAA Disability Support Services have photos that chronicle the Disability Rights Movement.

 

Did you know?

  • Only 56% of people age 21 to 64 having some type of a disability were employed in the past year even though 88% of people without a disability were able to find employment.
  • Seventeen years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 became law
  • Disability Mentor Day is Wednesday, Oct. 17
