University of Alaska Anchorage music education professor Christopher Sweeney will present a concert of solo trombone works on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. in the UAA Fine Arts Building Recital Hall.

The concert will feature standard works for the solo trombone, including Gröndahl's Concerto for trombone and piano, and Monaco's Sonata No. 1 for trombone.  In addition, the concert will feature modern works such as Buss's Camel Music, which requires the performer to sing and speak through the trombone.  Finally, the concert will have a set of Ives' songs transcribed for trombone and a performance by the Chugach Brass of the popular Trio for Brass by Poulenc.  Also featured in this concert is Dean Epperson, piano; Linn Weeda, trumpet; and Cheryl Pierce, horn.

Professor Sweeney holds a doctorate in music education from the University of Miami.  He is in his third year at UAA, and serves as the head of the music education program.  Sweeney has performed and adjudicated at many schools throughout Alaska.  He has also performed in Alaska as a soloist with the UAA Wind Ensemble, as well as with Cross Sound, and is a founding member of both the Chugach Brass and the UAA Trombone Trio.

Tickets for the concert are available at www.centertix.net or the UAA Fine Arts Box Office (786-4849).  Prices are $17 for general admission and $15 for UAA students, seniors and military.
