Spring 2008: Digital art at the Kirmura Gallery

by Kathleen McCoy  |

"Photographic and Digital Exploration," featuring the work of Mariano Gonzales and Deborah Tharp, opens Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Kimura Gallery at the University of Alaska Anchorage. The show runs through Feb. 8.

Gonzales and Tharp, associate professors in UAA's Department of Art, will exhibit works that inhabit the digital universe. Tharp will show at least a dozen digital composites. Gonzales, who has been called a "mixed-media/collagist/photographer/digital artist," will be represented by about 15 pieces, all owing heavily to ink-jet printers.

The show opens at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday with a cookies-and-punch reception.

On Monday, Jan. 28, the artists will each give a talk about his and her work. The lectures are scheduled for 7-8 p.m. in Room 117 of the UAA Fine Arts Bldg.

The Kimura Gallery is on the second floor of the UAA Fine Arts Building. Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon-Fri.
