Spring 2008: New short-term study abroad opportunity to Scandinavia

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The departments of Anthropology and International Student Services (part of Enrollment Services) are offering a short-term travel study course to Scandinavia in late July and early August 2008. Students can earn from 1 to 3 upper-division credits for ANTH, HIST or GEOG A490 with "Past Peoples of Scandinavia" while traveling through Denmark, Norway, and Sweden for approximately 23 days.

These progressive nations enjoy the highest standard of living in the modern world while embracing their heritage as the home of the Vikings, the most technologically advanced mariners of their time. Participants will visit a living iron-age village, a modern sculpture park, folk museums, bronze-age tombs and much more! Five class meetings will be held prior to the trip, and they can be attended via distance if needed.

The deadline to apply is March 21, 2008 so don't delay! For more information visit the study abroad Web site at http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/iss/study_abroad.cfm or contact Dr. Christine Hanson at afclh@uaa.alaska.edu.
