Our Time 2008 is a non-partisan civic engagement initiative sponsored by the newly formed Anchorage Urban League Young Professionals (AUL-YPs). The goal is to inspire a youth movement of civic engagement among Anchorage's ethnically diverse communities. Toward this goal AUL-YPs is sponsoring a series of five highly interactive, hip-hop-based seminars, Hip-Hop & The Art of Political Activism. Each seminar is designed to educate young adults about the value of life-long voting, the political process and effective community organizing.

"We Are Hip-Hop: Remixing the Art of Social Change," will be held on Saturday, March 22 in Rasmuson Hall with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. Workshops will be held all day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with two creative components opening and closing the event. Highlights include: HerStory Month Talent Showcase -- "Year of the Hip-Hop Woman," Digital Graffiti Art Show by Maria "Toofly" Castillo, workshops on using hip-hop and social networks to change your community, workshops on the four elements of hip-hop: emceeing, breaking, and more.
