Gregory Button presents 'Uncertainty in the Wake of Environmental Disasters' - Feb. 16, 2011

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 6-8 p.m. UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

Gregory Button is author of the book "Disaster Culture." Button has spent extensive time in Alaska studying the Exxon-Valdez oil spill and his research is presented in a very accessible language in his book. His research is the only long-term study of the oil spill in Alaska. He has studied other disasters in the U.S. and compares responses and preparedness. Button demonstrates how the same mistakes are repeated and how public relations campaigns spread confusion, slowed down the progress of clean up and recovery efforts.

This event is sponsored by EPSCoR and the UAA Campus Bookstore. All events are free and open to the public with free parking. For more information, please contact Rachel Epstein at (907) 786-4782 or anre@uaa.alaska.edu. You can also visit the UAA Campus Bookstore.
