2012 Blood Donor Appreciation Month

by Kathleen McCoy  |

According to the Blood Bank of Alaska:

  • 1 in 7 patients admitted to a hospital will need a blood transfusion.
  • 1 in 3 people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime.
  • The Alaska blood supply is at critical levels for O Negative and O Positive blood.
  • When you donate blood, you give the gift of life.

In recognition of National Blood Donor Appreciation Month, UAA's RRANN program (Recruiting and Retention of Alaska Natives in Nursing) is hosting a blood drive with the Blood Bank of Alaska tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 26) from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. outside the Health Sciences Building (on Piper Street) in the LIFE Mobile. As always, free juice and cookies will be provided to all donors.
