Student Learning Outcomes Eportfolio Pilot Project Conference - April 13, 2012

Electronic portfolios (eportfolios) are gaining a lot of attention in academic circles these days because of the promise they have for engaging students more fully in their education and the ability for students to demonstrate that they have become what their education has prepared them for. While portfolios have been around for a long time, the ability to create them electronically opens up the possibilities for the inclusion of multimedia artifacts and makes them much more accessible. Research is showing that well-constructed student-owned portfolios having well-defined purpose, evidence of learning, and focused reflection can improve student performance, engagement and retention.

In the summer of 2011, the UAA Eportfolio Working Group (EWG) held a week-long intensive institute to help seven programs develop an eportfolio project for the demonstration of student learning outcomes. At the conference, each of the pilot programs will repesent an overview of their projects and lessons learned. Following the presentations, each group will be available to demonstrate their portfolios and discuss the projects in a poster session.

The pilot programs represent a wide range of disciplines including Environment and Society, Justice and Paralegal Studies, KPC Smart Start, Languages (Japanese and Spanish), Math, Psychology and Social Work. Each of the groups experimented with different software platforms and implementation strategies.

We invite the entire campus community to join us for the conference. Participants will interact with the project faculty and learn how eportfolios can make a positive difference in education as well as best practices for implementation.

Light refreshments will be available.

Please register for this event at the CAFE website.
