UAA-ISPI and Alaska Children's Services co-host 'Working with Suicidal Clients' - Aug. 29, 2012

Thursday, Aug. 9, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Fine Arts Building, Room 105 The UAA Integrated Suicide Prevention Initiative (UAA-ISPI) and Alaska Children's Services are co-hosting a workshop titled "Working with Suicidal Clients: Prevention and Intervention in Action" on Thursday, Aug. 9. The workshop will be presented by Mary Bartlett, Ph.D.

About the workshop: No other patient behavior generates more stress and fear among mental health professionals than suicidal behavior, yet many are undertrained in managing this psychiatric emergency. In this all-day workshop, participants will understand suicide as a clinical emergency and become familiar with best practices for appropriate care. Specifically, participants will learn about risk and protective factors, warning signs, common intervention errors, treatment challenges and appropriate assessment, intervention and documentation skills to use with suicidal clients. Handouts will be provided.

All participants in the workshop will receive a certificate of completion. American Psychological Association (APA) continuing education credits are also available.

About the presenter: Mary Bartlett, Ph.D., LPCC, NCC and CFLE, is an independent consultant qualified and internationally recognized in the area of suicide, suicide risk management, suicide prevention and resiliency. She is also an approved trainer in assessing and managing suicide risk (AMSR) for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and the American Association of Suicidology.
