Nursing Professor Elizabeth Campbell recnetly hosted a workshop on the peer review process at Phi Kappa Phi's biennial conventionElizabeth Campbell, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing at UAA, recently hosted a professional development workshop at the biennial convention for The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines--on Aug. 11 in St. Louis, Mo.

Campbell's workshop, "Evaluation of Teaching: Developing a Peer Review Process," helped participating professors learn how to develop a peer evaluation process at their respective institutions.

During her workshop, Campbell, who currently serves as president of UAA's chapter of the society, stressed that today many colleges and universities use student evaluations of faculty as a heavy factor in formal teaching evaluations. The development of a peer review process, as presented by Campbell, is used to provide a more balanced view of teaching expertise when used in conjunction with student evaluations. She discussed in-depth the current peer review process used at UAA's School of Nursing and provided real-life examples to participants looking to develop a similar process at their college or university.

The interactive workshop was hosted during the second day of the Society's two-day convention, which brought together more than 300 guests including 177 chapter delegates. The event also featured a keynote address from retired NASA astronaut Wendy Lawrence, as well as presentations by award winners from Phi Kappa Phi's grant programs, regional meetings, ideas for strengthening chapters and elections for the new board of directors.
