Maria Bonifacio named 2011 Staff Make Students Count award winner

Maria Bonifacio, winner of 2011 Make Students Count awardVice Chancellor for Student Affairs Bruce Schultz is proud to recognize Maria Bonifacio, associate director of Residence Life, as UA President Gamble's selection for the 2011 Staff Make Students Count Award.

Maria works tirelessly to enhance student life on UAA's Anchorage campus and supports students as they pursue their educational dreams. She has a strong record for proactively reaching out to and engaging students in the communities in which they live and learn. Maria is guided by a strong student-centered philosophy that regularly shapes her professional decision making.

Maria advises the Residence Hall Student Association (RHA), coordinates the UAA Safe Zone program, and oversees the First Year Experience program. She is a champion for diversity and inclusivity and is known for giving voice to marginalized students. In her role as leader of the UAA Safe Zone program, Maria spearheaded a campus-wide campaign to train students, faculty and staff to serve as allies to the GLBTQ community.
