UAA celebrates opening of Weidner Center for Real Estate Management

Oct. 23, 2017

The University of Alaska Anchorage will celebrate the opening of the Weidner Center for Real Estate Management with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 5:15 p.m. on the first floor of Rasmuson Hall.

Made possible by a generous $600,000 gift by Dean and Ana Weidner, the center supports students in the Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program. Both the center and program are housed in the UAA College of Business and Public Policy. The program is one of only a handful in the nation to offer a four-year degree with a dedicated curriculum focused on the management of real estate assets.

The modern, innovative center is an education hub designed to foster teamwork and interactive education. Complete with collaboration tables, computers and projectors, the space makes it possible for students to work as a large group or to break out into independent teams. This sharing-based infrastructure was created to foster a program culture rich in opportunities for students to communicate and connect with one another.

Dean Weidner is the founder of Weidner Apartment Homes, the largest private residential landlord in Alaska. He owns and manages over 46,000 apartment homes throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Since 2010, the Weidners have given more than $4 million to UAA and the College of Business and Public Policy. Their gifts have established the endowed Weidner Professorship, developed the Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program and funded $450,000 in student academic and travel awards.
