Alaska Native Values in Modern Governance: A Training Conference | Honoring Alaska
Native Values in Modern Governance
We were honored to welcome participants to Edward & Cathryn Rasmuson Hall (RH) for a meaningful and engaging two-day training conference exploring the intersection of traditional Alaska Native values and contemporary governance practices.
This in-person gathering brought together Alaska Native board members and shareholders, Tribal Council members and citizens, non-profit leaders, and community representatives for a shared learning experience. The conference aimed to equip attendees with practical tools and knowledge to navigate the complexities of modern governance while continuing to honor and elevate the rich cultural heritage of Alaska Native communities.
Over the course of the 2-day conference, participants engaged in seven rotating training blocks, offered multiple times to maximize scheduling flexibility and ensure everyone had access to the sessions most relevant to their needs. Foundational topics included Reading Financial Statements 101, Robert’s Rules of Order, and Fiduciary Duty, alongside a broad range of specialized trainings designed for Alaska Native corporations, non-profits, and Tribes.
We were grateful for the support and participation of distinguished presenters and leaders, including Jolene John, Regional Director of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Alaska Regional Office, Pat Pitney, President of the University of Alaska system, and UAA Interim Chancellor Cheryl Siemers, whose contributions enriched the program and reinforced the importance of this work.
The event provided a unique opportunity for attendees to learn from experts, exchange ideas, and build connections with others dedicated to strengthening Alaska Native governance.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this conference a success and to our conference sponsors - together we're making Alaska great!
Thank you to our conference sponsors
