Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the selection process work?

Selection of candidates is based on review of the paper application and an interview. Applications are initially reviewed to determine whether they meet the required criteria; admission to UAA, completion of all prerequisite courses with a 'C' or better, and a cumulative in the prerequisite courses of 2.5 or above. If an applicant does not fulfill these three requirements, they will not be considered for full-major acceptance for that year. Furthermore, if any section of the application is not complete or omitted, the application will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.

The application and all it's components are graded using a point system. Information from the applicants prerequisie GPA, performance in individual prerequisite courses, essays, and recommendations will be used. Top tier candidates are offered an interview.

  • I am not able to attend full-time, are there any part-time options?
The Surgical Technology Program is a full-time, one academic year program. Students enter into the full-major program with the understanding they must follow the course sequence outlined in the course catalog.  However, prior to the full-major program, students may complete prerequisite and general degree requirements on a part-time basis.
