2007 Cabin Fever Debates culminate with debate on Iran and nuclear technology

Intramural debating tournament brings forth talented debaters Four teams have been
chosen to advance to the final round out of a field of over 40 UAA students who competed
in the preliminary rounds of the Cabin Fever Debates, UAA's intramural debating tournament.
This Tuesday's final round pits the four best teams against each other on a final
round topic that is both timely and very controversial.
Scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Den, the motion for
the final round is "The West should recognize Iran's right to develop nuclear technology."
Given the seeming opening of the Bush administration to discussing with Iran issues
facing the Middle East while Iran continues to assert its right to complete the nuclear
fuel cycle, this topic is particularly relevant. Four UAA students will debate the
motion before a panel of guest judges, including winners from last year's Cabin Fever
Debates and Seawolf Debate alumni.
The awards ceremony for the tournament will immediately follow the final round (approximately
8:00 p.m.). The top team in the tournament will receive a $1,000 cash award and be
invited to attend the U.S. Universities Debating Championships with the Seawolf Debate
team. The top individual speaker in the tournament will be recognized with the Quianna
Clay Award for Excellence in Debating. All events are free and open to the public.
