Welcoming Diversity at UAA
by Kathleen McCoy |
Join UAA students, faculty, staff and administrators for a presentation and workshop
with trainers from the National Coalition Building Institute, an award winning, international,
non profit training organization on April 5 and 7 to discuss best practices for becoming
a more welcoming campus for all students and faculty at UAA. Both events will be held
in Library 307. On April 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. come to a free public presentation on
Turning Principle into Practice: Creating Welcoming and Diverse Learning Communities.
On April 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. participate in a free workshop on Welcoming Diversity,
which helps participants:
• celebrate their similarities and differences,
• recognize the misinformation they have learned about various groups, including
their own,
• learn about and reevaluate personal attitudes and behaviors that are based on
the impact of prejudice and discrimination,
• claim pride in their group identities,
• understand the personal impact of discrimination through the telling of stories
• learn hands-on tools for dealing effectively with offensive remarks and behaviors.
Workshop space is limited, to register call (907) 786.4605 or email aner@uaa.alaska.edu
